Hey everyone, it's Zack Lesher. I am from Corry, PA, which is a very small town near Erie, PA. Currently I am in my junior year of college at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. I am a Communication Studies major just trying to make an impact in the communication world. For this semester, I am taking a class called New-Media Journalism. In this particular class, I get to learn about a lot of the new-media forms and the effects from these forms. Not only this, but in this class, we also get to see the differences in traditional and new-media journalism. Personally, I took the class simply because I haven't taken a journalistic writing class before and I am hoping this course will give me some knowledge on journalistic writing with new-media forms.
In the creation of this blog, I wanted to make a spot where I can come to write about anything and everything. From breaking news to sports, I just wanted a spot to put my writing out there for the public to see. Making the name up for the blog was probably the hardest part about this first blogging assignment simply because I am not the most creative person on Earth. But knowing I needed a "spot" to put my writing out there and I am going to put my writing in blogs, I thought, what better name than "That Bloggin' Spot."I understand it isn't the most creative name ever, but to me, I like simplistic things and I wanted this "spot" to be a simple place for my writing.
Ever since I was little, I wanted to be a person that provided change for the good. As life continued, I never really knew in what way I would be able to provide change. But seeing where some media is heading and knowing that some media platforms aren't always the most reliable and trustworthy, I figured, this could be the area where I provided some type of change, even if it is the smallest amount. When I leave Slippery Rock University, I want to be able to provide that change in some media. I want to make media more reliable for people and more informative, but most importantly, less political and less opinionated.
If I were to have a favorite legacy media outlet, which is a media outlet created before the internet was around, I would choose the Wall Street Journal. My reasoning behind this decision is because Wall Street Journal has been recognized as one of the most unbiased media organizations in the United States. I like unbiased news simply because opinionated news can be spun in ways to attract more public. I would go to Wall Street Journal to see news that is more related to people all over the country and the world. If I were to pick a favorite stand-alone digital media outlet, which is a media outlet created in the time of internet, I would have to go with MTV. I think I would choose MTV simply because I like to see all the breaking news in regard to celebrities, pop culture, and some music. I understand that MTV is more of a cable company than anything, but as media continues to grow, MTV is expanding their platforms to many other forms of media. MTV has been recently using their brand to show the public a ton of news in regard to those celebrities, pop culture, and music.
